Building More Than a Dam: How Used Excavators Helped Bring Water to a Kenyan Village

For the residents of Musoma village in western Kenya, rainwater had always been a blessing and a threat. Seasonal flooding brought soil erosion, road washouts, and unsafe water conditions. When a nonprofit-funded contractor approached us with a bold plan to build a local retention dam, we didn’t just see a sale — we saw an opportunity to be part of something meaningful.

The Mission

The plan was simple on paper: move 8,000+ cubic meters of earth, divert water flow, and build a gravity dam to serve 1,500 people. But they only had six weeks, and the budget wouldn’t stretch to new equipment. They needed used excavators that could perform like new — without the premium price tag.

Choosing Trust Over Flash

Instead of flashy showroom models, the team chose two well-maintained Doosan DX200 units from our Korea stock — each with full maintenance logs and inspection records. We coordinated customs, offloading, and final-mile delivery with our local partner in Eldoret.

What Happened Next

Under the sun and in the red clay, the machines performed. The team built a flood barrier, carved out the reservoir, and finished final grading with zero major delays. But more than the technical result, it was the community impact that mattered.

“Now the water stays where it should.”

That’s what Mary, a local teacher, told the team at the project closing. Kids returned to school without walking through mud. A public hand-pump was installed, and runoff no longer flooded homes. “It’s more than just a machine,” the contractor said. “It was the right machine, at the right time, for the right reasons.”

“We didn’t just deliver excavators — we delivered stability, safety, and a little more hope.”
— Regional Project Manager

Our Take

Yes, we deal in used heavy equipment. But at our best, we help good people do great work — even on limited budgets. In this case, a pair of reliable excavators helped carve a better future from the soil itself.
